If a typing centre, airline agent, employer or sponsor tells you to pay through a different website, verify the domain and transaction reference before sharing payment information.

How Much Is the UAE Overstay Fine Per Day?

The UAE Government states that fines for overstaying visit, tourist and residence visas are standardised at AED 50 per day. ICP's official violation-fine service also lists AED 50 per day for relevant expiry or cancellation violations.

That is a daily fine, not necessarily the entire amount you will pay. Depending on the service and your file, processing or other official charges may appear separately. ICP's fine-payment service card, for example, separately lists a smart-services fee. GDRFA Dubai has its own fine-collection service and published fee treatment. Never assume that a fee quoted for one service applies to all emirates.

UAE overstay fine examples

The table below assumes the immigration authority has already confirmed the number of chargeable days and that the usual AED 50 daily rate applies. It does not calculate your grace period.

Formula: confirmed chargeable days multiplied by AED 50. The official ICP or GDRFA result is the amount to verify before payment.

Consider a worker whose residence permit is cancelled on a particular date. If the official record confirms that the worker's authorised post-cancellation stay lasts another 60 days, the worker should not treat all 60 days as overstay. The fine starts only after the permitted period ends, if the person remains without another lawful status.

Do not use a generic online calculator as proof of your immigration balance. A cancellation date, residence category or outstanding violation that is missing from the calculator can change the result.

UAE Residence Visa Grace Periods After Expiry or Cancellation

This is the part that causes the most expensive misunderstandings.

ICP publishes different post-expiry or post-cancellation residence grace periods. Its current residence renewal service card identifies the following groups:

These are federal service-card categories, not an automatic entitlement based on your profession or what a friend received. Check the category recorded on your specific visa, particularly for Dubai-issued residence files and specialised residence routes.

A skilled worker should not claim a 90-day period based on job title alone without confirming the classification and official record. Likewise, do not assume that an employee, dependent, investor or student has the same period as someone else in the family.

The distinction matters: the visa expiry or cancellation date and the last day you are permitted to remain may be different dates.

Do tourist and visit visas have the same grace periods?

Do not apply the residence table above to tourist or visit visas. The validity and permitted stay for an entry permit depend on the visa issued, extensions allowed, and the record held by the authority. Some visas are extendable and others have restrictions.

Check the current entry permit and whether any extension was approved, not just requested. An agent's assurance that "the extension is being processed" is not a substitute for an updated official status.

How to Check a Dubai Overstay Fine Online (GDRFA)

If your visa or residence file was issued in Dubai, use the official GDRFA Dubai Fines Inquiry form.

1. Open the official GDRFA fines inquiry link.
2. Select the available search method. The form lists File Number, UDB Number, Emirates ID and Passport Number.
3. Enter the information that corresponds to the selected search method. Passport-based inquiry may also require nationality; other searches may require date of birth or file details.
4. Complete any security verification and submit the inquiry.
5. Review the record and the amount shown. Check that you are looking at your immigration file before making a payment.
6. If the details do not match, use another supported identifier or contact GDRFA/Amer rather than repeatedly guessing.

To confirm the underlying permit first, use the official Dubai visa status service.

Can you check a Dubai visa fine using only a passport number? Passport Number is an available search type, but the form can request additional identity details. Do not promise that a passport number alone will always return a result.

If your Dubai fine does not appear

Possible reasons include selecting the wrong search type, entering details from a renewed passport, looking up a different person's immigration file, or having a transaction that has not yet appeared in the public inquiry. These are possible explanations, not a diagnosis.

Cross-check the visa/cancellation record and contact GDRFA Dubai if the discrepancy remains. A blank or failed lookup is not proof that you have no violation.

How to Check an ICP Overstay Fine Online (Other Six Emirates)

For a visa issued outside Dubai, begin with ICP Smart Services.

1. Confirm the visa validity, residence expiry or cancellation information using the appropriate ICP record or service.
2. Open ICP's Payment of visa or residence violation fine service card.
3. Choose Start Service and follow the current portal instructions. The ICP service card says access requires UAE Pass login.
4. Check that the immigration file and violation category are correct.
5. Review the calculated fine and any separately displayed service fees.
6. Pay only when the details are accurate and you understand what action you must take afterward.
7. Save your receipt and check your immigration status again after the transaction is processed.

The portal design and fields can change. The official service card is a more reliable entry point than screenshots of older versions of the ICP site.

If you do not have access to UAE Pass or cannot retrieve your file, ask the ICP contact centre or an authorised service centre about an available assisted route. Do not share UAE Pass one-time codes with a private agent.

How to Pay a UAE Visa Overstay Fine

There is no good reason to pay an unidentified social media account or unofficial "fine clearance" agent.

Pay through ICP

For ICP-managed files, use the official visa or residence violation fine payment service. The published service steps are to submit the application, review or correct retrieved data, and complete the payment.

ICP's service conditions explicitly state that after paying the fine, the person's status must be adjusted or the person must leave the UAE.

Pay through GDRFA Dubai

For a Dubai file, start with the GDRFA Fine Collection for Violators of Residency Law service. GDRFA lists digital channels and authorised Amer service centres. The service card currently describes collection of the violation fine and lists no additional service fee for that specific GDRFA collection service.

If the website directs your case to an Amer centre or another authorised government route, use that route and request the official transaction receipt.

After you pay: the three checks that matter

1. Payment: Do you have a successful government payment record or receipt?
2. Status: Is your visa now active, legally changed, renewed, cancelled for departure, or otherwise properly resolved?
3. Next action: If the status remains irregular, is a permitted new application or documented departure process underway?

A successful card charge is only the first check. It is not an automatic residence approval.

Can You Fix Your Status Without Leaving the UAE?

Sometimes, depending on your visa type, sponsor, new permit eligibility and immigration file, there may be a lawful in-country application or status adjustment route. It is not guaranteed, and paying an old fine does not create eligibility for a new visa.

Example: your employer cancelled your visa

Imagine you resign, and your employer says your residence has been cancelled. You then receive a new job offer.

The safe sequence is to obtain the cancellation proof, verify your last lawful date, confirm the new employer is authorised to apply, and track the actual immigration application rather than relying on a verbal promise. If the previous period has already been exceeded, check and settle any applicable violation through the proper authority as part of the approved process.

Example: you are on a tourist visa and want to stay longer

First determine whether your particular visa can be extended or converted through a lawful channel. A new visa application being discussed with an agent is not evidence that your existing stay has been extended.

If the authorised stay has ended, ask ICP or GDRFA about the confirmed fine and the legitimate next step. Do not assume that repeated "visa runs" or a last-minute travel booking will automatically resolve every immigration issue.

Example: a family member's residence was cancelled

Dependents must be checked individually. A spouse's or child's residence may have its own status and action requirements when the sponsor changes employment or loses residence.

Do You Need an Exit Permit to Leave After Overstaying?

Not every case follows the same departure procedure. The relevant immigration authority must determine whether a departure permit or another settlement step is required for your particular file.

ICP publishes an official Issue Departure Permit service for violators. Its current terms state that a regular exit permit requires settlement of outstanding fines and departure within seven days of the permit's issuance. Where a permit expires unused, a replacement application may be needed.

That seven-day rule applies to the specific ICP departure permit service. It is not a new universal grace period for everyone who has overstayed.

Before purchasing a non-refundable flight, ask the authority or authorised centre:

• Is an exit permit required for my immigration file?
• Must the fine be paid before permit issuance or departure?
• What is the actual last date for departure on any permit issued?
• Is my passport valid and accepted for the intended route?
• Are there other open immigration or legal restrictions that require separate action?

Can UAE Overstay Fines Be Reduced or Waived?

There is no general entitlement to a fine reduction merely because the total is large or you cannot afford it.

For Dubai, GDRFA publishes an official Exemption from Fines for Violators of Residence Law service. It allows a person to ask for a waiver or reduction, with supporting documents. The service lists:

• A copy of the person's passport.
• A letter explaining the circumstances of the violation and inability to pay.
• Any additional evidence requested by the Fines Committee.

Approval is discretionary. A request may be rejected or may not produce the reduction hoped for. Consult the service card for current charges or the authorised centre handling the application.

For a non-Dubai ICP file, contact ICP using official support channels to ask what review or exceptional-relief process, if any, applies. Do not assume Dubai's GDRFA request system handles a Sharjah or Abu Dhabi file.

What happened to the special 2026 UAE overstay fine waiver?

In March 2026, ICP announced an exceptional exemption for eligible travellers affected by regional airspace closures and flight suspensions, covering certain delayed-departure fines arising from 28 February 2026.

Authorities subsequently announced a specific final period, 10 June to 9 July 2026, for eligible affected individuals to adjust their status or depart. That window was tied to the exceptional disruption and ended on 9 July 2026; it should not be mistaken for an ongoing general amnesty. If an exceptional disruption affected your personal file, seek an official determination rather than relying on an old news headline.

What if Your Employer or Sponsor Caused the Overstay?

If an employer failed to renew residence, delayed a promised transfer or did not clearly communicate cancellation, start by documenting the immigration facts. An employer's wrongdoing and the fine on an immigration record may need to be addressed through different government procedures.

1. Ask for a copy of the residence cancellation or renewal application.
2. Verify the dates and status through GDRFA Dubai or ICP.
3. Keep contracts, messages, application numbers and any receipts.
4. Ask the relevant immigration authority what action is required on your file.
5. If there is an employment-rights dispute, contact the appropriate labour authority rather than allowing immigration deadlines to pass.

An employer or agent promising to "clear everything" without giving you an official transaction number is a warning sign. Keep your originals and do not disclose passwords or one-time verification codes.

Is an Overstay Fine the Same as a UAE Visa Ban?

No. An overstay fine is a financial penalty for a particular immigration violation. A visa ban, travel restriction, work-permit block or deportation order may involve a different authority, different facts and an additional process.

Paying a fine does not necessarily remove an unrelated restriction, and a fine appearing on a file does not by itself prove that a person is banned. Why an Online UAE Visa Fine May Seem Wrong

Before paying an amount that does not fit your history, check:

• Wrong issuing emirate: A Dubai file should be checked through GDRFA Dubai, not treated as an ICP-only case.
• Wrong identity record: A previous passport, UID or file number may be connected to the visa.
• Cancellation vs expiry: A cancelled residence may have a different relevant date from the printed expiry date.
• Grace-period category: A 30-day assumption can be wrong if another category applies, and the reverse can also happen.
• Pending vs approved applications: A submitted application is not necessarily an approved extension or new status.
• Other official charges: The payment screen may show a transaction fee or a separate violation.
• Old screenshots: A saved image may reflect a balance before later changes to the file.

Seven Common Mistakes to Avoid

1. Counting from the wrong date. Residence cancellation and post-cancellation allowance must be confirmed from the immigration file.
2. Assuming every resident gets 180 days. ICP's residence periods are category-specific.
3. Confusing tourist and residence rules. The residence grace-period table is not a universal tourist-visa rule.
4. Paying a fine and doing nothing else. An immigration status problem may remain unresolved.
5. Using a private payment link. Only use official or authorised services, and keep receipts.
6. Assuming an amnesty is still active. The special mid-2026 window for affected travellers was time-limited.
7. Booking travel before confirming departure requirements. Some files need an additional permit or separate action.
